Because most people who create anything at all on the Internet want to create noise, and MySpace allows one to create a whole lot of it. I hate MySpace for the same reasons you do--it has no philosophy of design, either of form or function. But as long as it's angering the people who just want the children to shut up and behave, as a platform, it has my reluctant support.
 

I guess most of the pages I've seen aren't even about transmission of ideas or exercising free speech. They're full of meaningless chatter.

So yeah, a very low signal to noise ratio.
