::BEST NEW PRODUCT FROM A COMPANY THAT HEARKENS TO RIVER PHOENIX'S CHARACTER IN EXPLORERS AS WELL AS "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM" ::

About two months ago, I ripped out a blurb in Quick, a local newsdaily. It referred to Wolfgang Puck's Gourmet Latte, a self-heating can of creamy coffee beverage. I read that it cost $7.99, and while that's pretty steep for a coffee, I'd probably shell out $8 to try it for novelty's sake. (Yeah, I'm not thrifty on beverages sometimes.)

I saw it in the store as I prepped for vacation, and a pack of four was $7.99. Excellent! And it was on sale, too! So I got a "mixed pack" by taking one of each flavor in a pack (I know, I know...) and toted them to New Braunfels.

Good design at work: The first few steps in activating the self-heating can involves pushing a button on its bottom, so instructions for them are written upside down! To see how it works, follow the product link above and watch the video. It's limestone and water -- the heating combo, that is.

It tasted pretty okay. Not fantastic, not gross. I had the vanilla one.

While it didn't get as genital-blisteringly hot as fast food drive-thru coffee, it got hot enough to tip the scale from warm to hot, and as I emptied the container, it warmed even more (less mass of liquid to absorb the heat - yay physics)!

It would be perfect for camping. Or watching winter sports (heh, which I don't do). Or nonchalantly walking into a room full of family members willing to ask, "What's that?" and then be bitch-slapped with a hot palm full of science.
