::SIP THE BUBBLY::

One of the most enthralling parts of the Science Museum of Minnesota is the art piece called "Pipedream." The bubbles are let out of air valves at the bottom of the clear tubes, and they combine to form patterns as they rise to the top of the lobby's ceiling. I could watch this for hours, but I had to settle for ten minutes. I saw zigzags, a smiley face, and amazing long bubble-segments that collapsed on themselves to form even huger lines. Bruce Shapiro knows his stuff. Here's a picture I took:

Comments:
All his work seems to be perfectly vertical, but no less cool for it. What about something with a pitch of say 15 degrees? Or varied pitches and timed bubbles, so when a pattern effluesces it starts out scrambled, resolves at a point of convergence and then scrambles again? Or you could just say I'm going overboard with the whole thing... I'd like to see that museum of yours!

Right angles help you feel the science.
